ONE: Big development for me:
- I have hired (on a contractor basis) someone local to proofread the existing articles on the Tank-- for typos, spelling errors, formatting 'horrors', and garbled text (characters that have gotten lost during the years, as opposed to garbled thinking ... no real hope to fix that... smile).
- So far, they have identified close to 3,000 errors--which I am feverishly trying to correct.
- They are a recent college graduate, completing their degree in History with a 4.0 GPA and being honored with the highest award in their class, and have closely read several thousand pages of Tank articles/series, before even beginning this work.
- They have a great eye for detail, but -- since the Tank is a hodge-podge of early Notepad, Netscape editor, early CSS, and later CSS (all of which has been edited in NOTEPAD later, creating what we called in software development 'spaghetti code')-- they cannot APPLY the fixes themselves.
- Of course, when I am in the files making the corrections, too often I see the need to adjust the format for easier reading... which greatly slows progress down... "scope creep", it is called...sigh
- They are also assisting me in finding material on the Tank that is NOT CURRENTLY indexed in the Topics. There were at least 200 html files that needed review for inclusion in the indices. (The material could be found, though, if a visitor used the SEARCH page to find articles about the subject matter.)
- They will soon start helping me clean up the BOOKS listings, to provide an AUTHOR view in addition to what I have now (subject area, title).
- I am in the process of rethinking some of the navigation issues.
- Once I get most of this 'maintenance' work done, I can get back to CONTENT CREATION, such as the top-priority projects (e.g. additions to the Lukan Census discussion, Domestic Violence in the ANE cultures, Judging between religious truth claims, and the DOZENS of unfinished series ...).
- This has helped get the momentum back up--although it creates a lot of time pressure on me to define the workload tasks (sigh)... They work very quickly, and often finish tasks before I have time to develop the next set.
- Their major was in G-R history, so I might be able to use their research skills in the future.
TWO: Bought a couple of books but I have not had time to code them and add them to the booklisting files. Here they are for now:
